Legal Aid

The Legal Aid program affords members no cost attorney representation for most job related matters. Each SLCPA member has access to our attorneys 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Legal aid coverage allows you to speak to an attorney before any action is taken by your department. You should ALWAYS know what to do BEFORE formal action is taken against you. Your piece of mind is PRICELESS!

If you are involved in a shooting, vehicle accident, use of force or other critical incident, our experienced SLCPA attorneys are available to communicate with you about your incident immediately, discuss the incident, and assist you in your interview and statement.

SLCPA members are encouraged to contact us regarding any legal matter, not just issues that fall under SLCPA funded legal aid. If appropriate, the SLCPA willl refer members to reputable attorneys specializing in the area of law the member requires. Examples may include: Post Certification Hearings, Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury, Divorce, Child Custody, etc.

SLCPA also offers free simple will services. Last Will & Testaments and Durable Powers of Attorney (for Health Care Directive) are provided at no cost to members. Just these services alone can cost you thousands of dollars!!

If you have a question about Legal Aid, please call 314-240-4960.

Death/Injury Benefit

SLCPA “non-line-of-duty” (any death, regardless of cause) benefit of $3,000.00. The $3,000.00 benefit is delivered immediately to the beneficiary from the SLCPA treasury. No life insurance company forms or waiting for death certificates.

An additional Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance policy is provided for all members. Premiums for that policy are paid from each member’s dues to the SLCPA. The AD&D policy starts at $10,000.00 and goes up from there depending on injuries and the circumstances of the incident.

Wills

All members are entitled to a free simple will and testament.  Please contact Jenn.Hibbs@slcpa.org to begin the process.

In addition to the free service, SLCPA has partnered with Tucker Allen to provide a more robust line of services at discounted rates.  Please check out the link for more details:
