No mention of chief as diminished St. Louis County police board meets

Clayton — With two of its five spots open, the St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners handled routine business at a meeting Wednesday that did not touch on a backdrop controversy involving Chief Jerry Lee.

It was one day after the County Council voted 4-3 to delay the confirmation of the two replacement nominees to the panel, Calzona J. Hall and John Saracino, over concern that County Executive Charlie A. Dooley might be trying to reorganize the board to oust Lee.
The Police Board approved some contracts and recognized several officers for good work.

Afterward, the acting chairman, Gregory Sansone, said he believes Lee is doing a good job. Asked about the impending appointments of two new members and Dooley's reported push to oust the chief, Sansone said, "At this stage, we'll just have to see how it plays out."

Police Commissioner Jimmy L. Brown refused to comment. The other commissioner, Floyd Warmann, was not available for comment after the meeting.
Lee said he had no reaction to the County Council's vote Tuesday.
